Maslenica

The village of Maslenica thanks its name to hundred years old olive groves (maslina=olive) cultivated on its coast. Olives are one of the most significant natural symbols of this village, a reflection of the past times and activity of its inhabitants.Maslenica is located in the embrace of Novigrad Sea, Zrmanja River and Mountain Velebit, inviting for a perfect family vacation in a beautiful natural environment.

There is no certain document about the first settlement of Maslenica. The memories of its inhabitants passed from generation to generation, mentioning the first settlement in the early 1780’s. In 1961 the village got a bridge, which was named after it – Maslenica, has such a great importance for all of the inhabitants.

The Maslenica bridge (also known as “New Maslenica bridge”, so it could be distinguished from the “old” one destroyed in the Croatian War of Independence and reconstructed in year 2004) is reinforced concrete arch bridge above the Novigrad gorge, not far away from the Maslenica village, traversing both directions lanes of highway A1, section Maslenica – Zadar 1. Overall length of the bridge is 377,6 m, with a width of 20,4 m. Span structure is made of a span of 200 m because of which is classified among the bigger bridges of this kind in the world.
